Mothering Emma Kate and Jack…

Turtles and Talley’s

Today, we did the family thing. Chris and I made our lattes, put the kids in the car, and headed to south Charlotte for the day. We went to the Charlotte Nature Museum where we saw an owl, turtles, snakes, butterflies, and other creatures. Emma Kate and Jack enjoyed playing at the [...]

Springtime in February

The kids and I have been enjoying this wonderful spring-like weather in February. We’ve spent a great deal of time outside this week, particularly playing in the backyard. If it’s not going to snow, let’s bring on the warm weather and sunshine!

Emma Kate won the lottery!

The Children’s Community School lottery! As kindergarten approaches, I have been on pins and needles looking for a good schooling fit for our family. The Children’s Community School, a charter school in Davidson, is an amazing place that seeks to nurture the whole child with an emphasis on the arts and community involvement. [...]

Girls’ night out!

Such fun… such fun. Dawn, Joanna, and I had the opportunity to partake in a girls’ night out Friday night. We spent 4 hours gossiping, girl talking, and giggling. We went to Mia Famiglia, an Italian restaurant located in the Peninsula shopping area. We enjoyed food, fun, fireside music, and a [...]

Food for thought

As I mentioned in my Valentine’s post, Chris has introduced a new addiction to me: podcasting. A favorite podcast I have discovered is “Vegetarian Food for Thought” available at http://feeds.feedburner.com/VegetarianFoodForThought. Listening to this podcast has prompted me to really think about what we eat and how we choose to live. I believe [...]

Blogging my valentine

After 10 years together (yikes!), I am forgoing a Hallmark card for a less-traditional way to say, “I love you.”
To my husband:
Tonya’s Top Ten: Reasons I Love You
10. You chase cars (to keep our children safe from those who drive too fast).
9. You clean up the cat puke.
8. You love to sleep with our [...]

Renewing my “stay-at-home mom” contract!

UNCC just delivered the news that they offered the full-time teaching job (the one I interviewed for) to a guy with a PhD in educational technology.  While this is a bit disappointing, it is also humbling and has given me the opportunity to consider what is truly important.  And, what could be more important than [...]

Happy 22 months to Jack!

Jack celebrated the 22 month mark this past week.  It is so hard to believe my baby is just two short months from turning two.  At almost two, Jack is coming into his own as a mischievous toddler.  He loves wearing big sister’s tutu and chapstick!  He likes to choose his own cup, plate, and [...]

Baking Valentine’s cookies

Today, I baked Valentine cookies with Emma Kate and Jack. The kids helped to prepare the cookie dough, roll it out, and cut it into heart-shaped cookies. After they cooled, we iced the cookies and added lots of colorful sprinkles. Yummy!

Playdates and more playdates

Emma Kate absolutely loves to play with her friends. This week she played twice each with Fletcher and with Jane.
