Mothering Emma Kate and Jack…

Potty training 1… 2… 3

So, today I decided it was time to potty train the little guy. The funny thing about Jack is that he actually prefers to wear a diaper and let me do all the work. His smart side has definitely been working against me. Upon the advice of Miss Liane, I checked out a book at the library titled, Potty Training 1-2-3 . The premise of the method promoted by the book’s authors is that children respond best to frequent rewards and praise that is directed at their efforts to “stay dry” versus to “put something in the potty.” Armed with jelly beans and fruit snacks, I rolled up my sleeves and prepared for a day in the bathroom (my favorite). Much to my surprise- it actually worked. Jack stayed dry (for the most part) and was quite proud of his accomplishments. However, he wasn’t too pleased when I began snapping his picture in the act:

  1. I would try potty training rewards. This worked great for sun. He loved pushing the audio push button hearing he is a Big Boy and opening a door to find a chocolate surprise. He really became involved. I really believe it was the positive reinforcement hearing he is a Big Boy that worked so well. He was peeing and pooping in his potty within a week. I know every child is different, but have a look and see if this would work for you. http://www.pottytrainingrewards.com

  2. So proud of you, Jack! You are such a big boy!
