I can’t believe Emma Kate has finished two years of school and will be a second grader next month! What I love about this age (7) is the idea of having a big girl and little girl wrapped into one. My bikini-clad, toe-nail painted, independent big girl still sleeps with her sock monkey and crawls into bed with Mommy and Daddy at night. Emma Kate’s bedroom is testimony to this duality as well, with a mix of Disney princess pictures, Hannah Montana posters, stuffed animals, and nail polish kits.
EK had another great year at CSD (formerly known as CCS). She finished the year as a strong (but stubborn reader) who enjoys exercising her brain and is still curious about the world around her. EK’s class presented its final play of the year- focusing on preserving the rainforest. The play was based on Lynne Cherry’s The Great Kapok Tree. A few pictures from the production:
And, Emma Kate with her 1st grade teachers, Mrs. Harrison and Miss Jill:
One of EK’s newest big girl accomplishments is learning to play the piano. I think this is especially endearing to me because it’s something I did as a child. She seems to be a natural at it, even composing her own songs!

Wow, EK-I am truly impressed. I had been wanting to hear her play, so thanks for blogging the video. She seems to have a lot of natural talent (like her Aunt Malinda
)
Good job Emma.. I’ve heard you play at home so I knew your skill, but was impressed with your poise at your recital! And I love the new room… never knew blue could be so girly!
