Mothering Emma Kate, Jack, & Liam

Only little once

Today Emma Kate said, “Will you get my fork for me. You know I’m only little once.” So smart. So big. So right.
It’s why we sleep with our kids.
It’s why we let them bathe themselves in ducky tubs.
We marvel at them. We savor them. They’re only little once.

Happy Valentines to my little people (and my big guy)

Yes, this must be my longest blogging hiatus ever. Three kids + one busy household to organize = no time for blogging! I am composing this post one-handed with a sleeping post-nursing Liam on my lap, procrastinating work that looms on today’s horizon.
I am so in love with my little valentines. Exactly one year ago, [...]

School days

Emma Kate is now a second grader and Jack is entering his last year of preschool! It’s hard to believe they are so big! EK has smoothly made the transition into her new classroom with new friends. She ended a loop at the close of first grade, leaving the friends she had been with for [...]

Jack-fish

I love it when Emma Kate really steps into her big sister role. And, she has been doing just that this week while helping Jack learn to do new things in the pool. I have been amazed by how quickly Jack’s swimming has progressed this summer. He is now totally self-sufficient in the pool… swimming [...]

Family time

We took a long awaited trip to Pinehurst to visit Grammy and Grand Wink a couple weekends ago. We were anxious to see their new (actually quite old, historic) home in downtown Southern Pines. Before heading to their house, we met Grammy at the best park ever: Camelot. Fortunately, my friend and former colleague, Kristy [...]

Fun with friends

It is amazing how quickly this summer has flown by; Emma Kate starts back to school next week and we are certainly not ready! This summer, the kids have spent a lot of time just playing and being kids (something I think is pretty important). A couple of highlights from the last couple of weeks:
Thanks [...]

Summer fun

I would like to blame my lack of blogging on a busy summer- but truly it could better be attributed to just plain neglect. We are enjoying the laziness of summer- in particular, not having something on our agenda each day. The kids have both participated in summer camps and the three of us have [...]

My rising second grader

I can’t believe Emma Kate has finished two years of school and will be a second grader next month! What I love about this age (7) is the idea of having a big girl and little girl wrapped into one. My bikini-clad, toe-nail painted, independent big girl still sleeps with her sock monkey and crawls [...]

Happy 7th Birthday, Emma Kate!

My baby girl is now 7… wow! We actually spent Emma’s birthday in route to Hilton Head where we celebrated with cupcakes and a weekend of beach fun. The weekend prior, Emma Kate had a few little girls over for a slumber party. It was lots of fun (even for me)! The girls and I [...]

Dream Big!

As noted in earlier posts, our family (Chris and I included) just loves Roger Day. Jack, in particular, is a big fan of his newest CD- Dream Big! Although reluctant to participate in the music and festivities, the kids had another opportunity to see Roger Day perform at a kids’ carnival a couple weeks ago. [...]
