I am writing today to remember my cousin Sara who passed yesterday. Sara was a feisty spirit- intelligent, sharp, and witty. Even after a lifelong struggle with her health, she still pressed on to do the things she enjoyed most- spending time with family and friends. We always enjoyed Sara’s company- and we knew she [...]

Yesterday, Jack’s preschool class took its first field trip across the street to the DUMC pumpkin patch. The kids listened to a spooky story and picked out small pumpkins to take home.

After many days of patient waiting, we finally had the opportunity to meet Baby Jocie this weekend. We took a whirlwind trip to Wilmington and enjoyed lots of family visit time. It was so sweet to see how Emma Kate and Jack took on their “big cousin” roles and enjoyed holding Jocie and even singing [...]

Jocelyn Faye Harless was born October 1st at 1:51 am. She weighed 7 lbs and measured 19 3/4 inches long. “The delivery was far from ideal, but the outcome was worth it.” - Malinda.
We are so excited for Malinda and Josh, and wish them all the best as they embark on this new journey in [...]

Chris’ grandmother, Gamer, passed away Thursday. Today he and his family are in Wilmington attending Gamer’s funeral service; I am sad that we can’t join him. Chris’ childhood memories are inextricably tied to Gamer and Gamer’s house; he often shares these stories with me. I easily remember the first time I met Gamer- how sweet [...]

Saturday, per Mawmaw and Pawpaw’s suggestion, we visited the NC Zoo in Asheboro (that makes twice this year- so our membership finally paid for itself!). We walked from North America to Africa, admiring the animals we met and avoiding the crowd. In the end, we learned a lot, walked a lot, and experienced a lot [...]

Sunday afternoon, Malinda’s aunts joined forces with Josh’s aunts to throw a baby shower in honor of their soon-to-arrive little peanut. They were showered with lots of great baby stuff- it’s amazing how much a 7 or 8 pound little person needs! At the end of the day, their big SUV was packed and they [...]

Chris’ Granny passed this week, and I want to take a moment to remember her. I can honestly say Granny is one of the most unique, artistic, and intuitive people I have known. She spoke often of her strong faith and passionate spirituality. She was remembered this weekend during a beautiful service in Wilmington. Granny [...]

Tuesday, we visited Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, joining Miss Debbie, Annie, and Natalie. It was a beautiful day for old-fashioned amusement park fun. The weather was perfect, the park was uncrowded, and the rides and shows were a lot of fun. Emma Kate’s favorite was the tilt-a-whirl, and Jack loved the chair lift.

The kids and I enjoyed our visit to Wilkes this week. The highlight of our trip was watching my dad play church league softball. I have a lot of fond memories watching him play when I was small (not so long ago!). The kids had a lot of fun cheering him on; Emma Kate made [...]
