Mothering Emma Kate, Jack, & Liam

Only little once

Today Emma Kate said, “Will you get my fork for me. You know I’m only little once.” So smart. So big. So right.
It’s why we sleep with our kids.
It’s why we let them bathe themselves in ducky tubs.
We marvel at them. We savor them. They’re only little once.

Dinner time blahs

Cooking is so overrated. To begin with, I spend WAY too much time looking for healthy recipes (my fault… I know) and trekking to multiple grocery stores to locate ingredients. Then, in between moments of 5 o’clock parenting (and we know how much fun that can be), I prep food and get dinner started. 2 [...]

BTW BFF LOL

So Emma Kate is home with me today (even though she doesn’t feel sick… at all). This was her second round of the 24 hour tummy bug, and it seems to go away as quickly as it comes on. If she keeps up at this pace, she will definitely be returning to school tomorrow. We [...]

Happy Valentines to my little people (and my big guy)

Yes, this must be my longest blogging hiatus ever. Three kids + one busy household to organize = no time for blogging! I am composing this post one-handed with a sleeping post-nursing Liam on my lap, procrastinating work that looms on today’s horizon.
I am so in love with my little valentines. Exactly one year ago, [...]

Announcing… Baby #3!

In late January, we were *surprised* to learn that we would be adding to our little family! Baby #3 is due late September, and we are all excited about this new addition to our family. Chris and I told Emma and Jack on Valentine’s Day, and they quickly embraced the idea and became excited. Emma [...]

Spring break at the beach

The kids and I just returned from our second annual girls (plus Jack) weekend at the beach. Mom and I drove down with the kids and met Malinda and Jocie (and Josh for one night) at North Myrtle. The weather was horrible (windy and cold), but it was wonderful to get away and to spend [...]

Child’s play

In an effort to convince Chris to help Emma Kate clean her (VERY messy) room, I was met with an explanation of why I should embrace her ‘creative play’ and the resulting mess. Our conversation went something like this:
Me: It drives me crazy how our kids tear through things and have no respect for putting [...]

A little taste of homeschooling

I have always believed that parents are their child’s first teachers. Although I think organized (and possibly unorganized) homeschooling can be really great for some families, I’m not sure I am capable of trying We feel so fortunate that Emma Kate is at such a wonderful school (and Jack will all too soon [...]

Before and after…

Although this post really has nothing to do with mothering Emma Kate and Jack, I thought I would share “before” and “after” pictures of our kitchen update. For Mother’s Day (I guess this post is related!), Chris granted me with as many wishes as I could make before June 30. So, when I suggested new [...]

Local organic produce

I think I’m in my element with this new type of blog post. I can share all sorts of parenting tips, and readers can choose to tune me out, and I will never know. Hmmm… I bet Chris would appreciate it if I would simply blog my conversations to him (just kidding, love).
So, last week [...]
